     Our movie club this month will feature critically acclaimed Israeli film "The Women's Balcony". It starts with an accident during a bar mitzvah celebration at a devout orthodox community in Jerusalem: the women's balcony collapses, leading to an unexpected gender rift, and to a state of shock in the community. As the current Rabbi loses his hold on the community, a new charismatic Rabbi takes his place, and begins pushing a fundamentalist agenda. Soon enough, the women of the community find themselves speaking truth to patriarchal power - and putting their life-long friendships and loyalties before an ultimate test. The LA Times described the film as "a warm culture-clash comedy that makes sharp points".
