Major General (Ret.) Noam Tibon served for 35 years in the IDF, starting as a soldier in a special forces unit and rose to become the Commander of the West Bank Division and the Northern Formation. In 2014, the IDF Chief of Staff asked General Tibon to investigate the military's conduct during the 2014 Gaza War, and provide a detailed report on any possible violations of the military's ethical code. Senior military officers from the U.S. and the U.K. who studied the report came to the conclusion that the IDF had taken more steps to avoid harm to innocent civilians during the conflict than any other Western military would have done under similar circumstances.
General Tibon will speak at Agudas Achim about the 2014 report, the moral dilemmas he faced during his many years of service, and the importance of upholding the IDF's ethical and moral standards. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session in the Chapel.
