IsraVote Election Results

Shalom DC,

Last Monday, the Greater Washington DC Jewish community came together for a celebration of Israeli democracy. After a month of learning and exploration, spearheaded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and our congregational Shlichim, we joined together to see the results of dozens of activities and events that took place throughout the DMV. Our purpose was to give the participants the opportunity to express their opinion through the ballot box.

Throughout the past month, Federation, in partnership with our congregational schlichim, has facilitated a variety of programs for learners of all ages/stages, focusing on the core issues of Israeli society today. We have identified these issues as security, economics, culture, and religion/state. We examined each of the political parties running in the current elections through these lenses, and offered participants the chance to take part in mock elections, lending their voice to Israel’s key issues and the democratic process. Over 1,000 community members, representing Washington’s diversity in terms of age, location, and affiliation, took part in IsraVote.

The culmination of this multifaceted initiative came last Monday, when Federation was proud to partner with our congregational Shlichim, the JCRC of Greater Washington, and the IAC to host a community forum. With a sold-out, standing room only crowd, we heard from leading experts on the state of Israel heading into the elections, and announced the official (unofficial) results of IsraVote.
