High Holy Day Youth Programming & Family Services

Agudas Achim is a community build on covenantal relationships. To deepen these relationships and connections between our children and our tradition, we offer a wide variety of programs for the littlest members of our community to our teens. Whether you want to participate in our Young Families tent service, need babysitting, or want your teen to explore the themes of the High Holy Days with their peers, we have something for you.

Young Families Tashlich at Ben Brenman Park

Saturday, September 10 | 11 a.m.

Join Morah Jen and other Young Families at Ben Brenman Park for tashlich. Bring a blanket to sit on, a shofar if you have one, and a picnic lunch to enjoy after the program.
 
An email will be sent by 9 a.m. detailing a change of plans in the event of inclement weather.

Rosh Hashanah Day 1, Rosh Hashanah Day 2, and Yom Kippur

10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Sukkah Courtyard
 
(In the event of inclement weather, the Young Families Tent Service and Holiday Celebration will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Flax Family Chapel)
 
Families with children birth to age 5 are invited to join Morah Jen for a High Holiday celebration in the Sukkah Courtyard! Older siblings are welcome to join.
 

High Holiday Babysitting

Agudas Achim is offering babysitting for children ages 1 to 4. To ensure that we can offer this service each day of the chagim, we need a have a minimum number of children each day.
 
Babysitting sessions start 10 minutes prior to the start of adult service time and runs until the end of each of the 3 services. Parents may pick up their children and take them to the Young Families Tent Service. Babysitting staff cannot take the children to the Young Families Tent Service. Parents are welcome to have their child(ren) remain in baby sitting for the entire duration of each morning. Snacks, toys, and fun will be provided; parents are asked to provide a dairy lunch and either a diaper bag or a change of clothing.
 

Youth Programming

Youth Programming: Grades K - 6

To register for K-6 programming, children must belong to a member family or be a guest of a member family. Children are welcome to join us and participate in the All Shofar Orchestra on Sunday, September 17 at approximately 10:40 a.m.
 
Children under 13 years old are encouraged to bring a dairy or parve lunch on Yom Kippur
 

Teen Programming - Agudas Ne'arim (Teen) Club Wants YOU!

All teens, ages 12 and up, are invited to join the new Agudas Ne'arim (teen) Club. Loaded with exciting activities, Ne'arim is just about getting together, meeting other Jewish teens, and having fun. Bring a friend for added fun. All activities in this inaugural year are free to participants. Sign up for activity reminders by emailing one of the leaders listed below.
 

Apples to Apples to Apple Pie
Saturday, September 16 | 11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Kick off the first day of 5784 with competitive fun in the traditional game of Apples to Apples followed by some delicious apple pie at Dee Dee Quigley's house. Meet in the lobby following Rabbi Rein's sermon and head over to Dee Dee's place.
 
Teens will return to Agudas Achim following the program.
 

Family Service
Sunday, September 17 | 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Continue the Rosh Hashanah celebration with this family service led by Morah Chaya. Afterwards, join the congregation in the Cohen Sanctuary for the shofar orchestra. Remember to bring your shofar if you want to show off your shofar chops.
 

Operation Isaiah Volunteers
Sunday, September 24 | 6 - 7 p.m.

Start your Yom Kippur off by doing a mitzvah! Collect and store canned goods for ALIVE! Thank congregants for their donations and put the food in the coatroom.
 
3 to 4 volunteers are needed. Interested? Contact Rachel Goldberg.
 

"Chew on This" - A Yom Kippur Discussion
Monday, September 25 | After Rabbi Rein's sermon

Join your friends in the Flax Family Chapel after Rabbi Rein's sermon to explore and discuss his message and the themes of Yom Kippur through a teen lense.
 

Sukkah Hop & Scavenger Hunt
Sunday, October 1 | 12:15 p.m.

Can you solve puzzles quickly and beat other sukkah hop teams to the final destination? Test your creativity, problem solving skills, teamwork, and sense of humor. Lunch will be provided.

Teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to be guests of USY and BBYO for special discussions, social gatherings, and community service opportunities. Teens who sign up in advanced by work for the program by contacting rsinfo@agudasachim-va.org.
