20,000 Meals in 2020

Dear Congregants,

I want to thank everyone profusely for a resounding success with 20,000 Meals in 2020! Your time, your support, and your advocacy on this MLK Day of Service all helped increase justice in this world for those of our neighbors who are food insecure.
What an event! The dedication and passion of our volunteers was amazing, and your enthusiasm was evident in the cheers that went up as the bell rang for each additional finished box!

And we met our goals: we had over 150 volunteers from Agudas Achim and Alfred Street show up, we were able to raise our full goal for the event, and we reached nearly 20,000 meals in about 3 hours. Together we worked--young and old, Christian and Jewish, black and white, men and women--for the common cause of making life better for our neighbors who suffer from hunger.
We also collected 90 postcards to send to USDA and Congress advocating against further reducing eligibility for SNAP and preserving this essential lifeline for families in need. Thank you for stepping up on a more systemic level as well!

Esther Miller deserves our special appreciation and accolades for bringing the idea and overseeing the planning of the entire event. What an accomplishment! And we could not have made this happen without support from the Henry H. Krevor Social Action Endowment Fund, June Krevor for her steadfast dedication to Henry’s ideals and passions, and the Social Justice Ministry at Alfred Street Baptist Church.
Thank you all for your crucial part in making a difference against hunger.

What's Next: Don't forget to come to our Descendants of Abraham joint study session at Dar al Hijrah mosque on Route 7, February 2 at 1pm, where Elisheva will help teach a comparative class about Jewish and Muslim prayer, music, and movement!

And save the date for our SAC planning meeting, rescheduled for Thursday, February 20 at 7pm. We'll be brainstorming ideas for next year's events and planning for the remainder of this year, with Good Deeds Day, National Refugee Shabbat, and more! Start thinking about what you want to do next year and come prepared for an exhilarating discussion of possibilities!

B'Shalom,
