This year we welcome back Josh Warshawsky, who has joined us several times to celebrate with his grandfather, our congregant, Jay Warshawsky. We have benefited from his participation in services, but now we will have an entire weekend to learn, sing, and bond with this amazingly talented artist. Josh is currently in Rabbinical school at the Ziegler school of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, and he has spent the last three years as the artist-in-residence and music specialist at Temple Beth Am and Pressman Academy in Los Angeles, CA, where he brought new musical energy to children and adults of all ages. He has transformed his home into a much-needed space in the LA area for Jews in their 20s and 30s of all denominations to celebrate Shabbat and holidays together. He is a graduate of Columbia University and the Jewish Theological Seminary with BAs in Religion, Talmud and Rabbinics. Josh’s music is a mainstay at Ramah camps and Religious Schools throughout the United States.
Hazzan Dienstfrey was fortunate enough to learn from him at Songleader Boot Camp last February in St. Louis. The ruach, the spirit, with which Josh sings and prays is palpable. She fell in love with his music then and was determined to bring him to Agudas to share his neshama with the entire community.
Ein Lanu Z’man as well as the children in the Religious School have been learning Josh’s music in preparation for his visit to Agudas, where Josh will lead davenning, teach us from the bima, sing with the Religious School children on Sunday morning, and perform with Ein Lanu Z’man on Saturday night after Shabbat. Please plan to attend the entire weekend’s activities for Artist-in-Residence, Jan. 26-28, 2018.
