   Come to services and learn from the words of Shelly Christensen, MA, FAIDD, author of “From Longing to Belonging, A Practical Guide to Including People with Disabilities and Mental Health Conditions in Your Faith Community.” Ms. Christensen co-founded Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM). She directed the award-winning Jewish Community Inclusion Program for People with Disabilities in Minneapolis for 13 years before founding her consulting group, Inclusion Innovations. She has contributed to many Jewish inclusion initiatives including those of the Union for Reform Judaism, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, Yachad, the Ruderman Chabad Inclusion Initiative, Jewish Federations of North America, and the Jewish Leadership Institute on Disabilities and Inclusion.

   As a parent, Ms. Christensen has been on the Journey to Hope herself. Learn about the needs that parents have when their child is diagnosed, and the different stages of their journey. Learn how understanding those needs and stages can have a positive impact on relationships between parents and professional partners in school, camp, and other faith-based opportunities.
Inclusion Brunch

   Join the Disability Inclusion Committee, Men’s Club, and Sisterhood at a brunch with speaker Gina Kline, disability rights attorney at Brown, Goldstein, and Levy. Nationally known for her litigation and policy work, Kline is a civil rights attorney who has advanced the rights of people with disabilities to move from sub-minimum wage and segregated employment to competitive integrated employment.
Reelabilities Festival
Sunday, Februart 23 | Beth El Hebrew Congregation, 3830 Seminary Road, Alexandria
   Once again, Agudas Achim will cosponsor a film with Beth El Hebrew Congregation of Alexandria as part of the JCC Reelabilities Festival. “DEEJ”  is about a high functioning young man who is on the autism spectrum and while he is unable to communicate verbally, he communicates using assistive devices. The film follows him as he transitions from high school and attends Oberlin College. A panel discussion will follow the screening. The Reelabilities Festival is sponsored by the Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia.
