Scott Littky, Education and Youth Director
Agudas Achim’s Education & Youth Director, Scott Littky, his wife, Felicia, and their children, Sarah and Avi, have become familiar faces around the synagogue in their time with us. Coming here after three-year stint in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Scott and the family have been thrilled to join such a warm and vibrant Jewish community as the one they have found at Agudas Achim.
Scott was born and raised in the Detroit area. He earned a B.A. in History from Wayne State University, and he also attended Wayne State University to work on his master’s degree in education and to receive certification to teach high school history. Scott taught Religious School and worked as a youth group advisor in the Detroit area during the early and mid-1980s.
Scott moved to Omaha where he served as a Community Judaic Studies Teacher for the Bureau of Jewish Education from 1988 to 1997. During his last year as a teacher for the BJE, Scott also served as the Assistant Director of Education at Beth El Synagogue. His final four years in Omaha were spent serving as Director of Education at Beth El Synagogue.
Scott has become very involved in the Greater Washington Area Partnership for Jewish Life & Learning (PJLL). He served as Chair of the PJLL’s Professional Day, as Board Secretary and is currently Vice-Chairman. Scott is on the Executive Board of the Jewish Educator’s Assembly. Additionally, Scott serves as Chair of the Family Life and Education Committee for ACPS. During this past year Scott has studied and worked on new approaches to teaching Holocaust Education at Yad VaShem in Jerusalem. He was invited back this summer to present a paper on teaching the Holocaust in the multicultural setting. Scott is currently working on implementing new Holocaust curricula and training into the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), as well as through the Agudas Achim Religious School.
Scott met his wife, Felicia, within two weeks of moving to Omaha. They married in 1990 and have 2 children, Sarah and Avi. Felicia works full-time for a professional membership association in Washington, DC. The kids are very involved in our USY chapter. Sarah also works with the younger kids at Agudas Achim, serving as staff for the Nitzanim program on Shabbat mornings. She is also a popular babysitter with many congregant families. Avi enjoys theater, computers and magic. You can often see him performing magic in Old Town on the weekend. Scott and Felicia are also the parents of a big bloodhound named Irving. Many congregants and visitors alike have been greeted by Irving as they walk from their cars into the synagogue.
For fun Scott is a baseball freak and very loyal to both the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals. Scott also has a deep love of music and these days listens to a lot of Bluegrass!
