Mirza Lopez, Executive Director

Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, Mirza Lopez graduated from the Catholic University with a B.A. in biology and chemistry. She taught several levels of science in Puerto Rico’s Public Schools for seven years. Mirza married her childhood sweetheart Rafael, and they have two sons — Dax and Caleb. While living in Birmingham, Alabama, Mirza volunteered with Jewish Family Social Services and served as vice president of sisterhood in Temple Beth El. She became the Synagogue’s Operations Manager, a position similar to executive director, and held that position for two years.

Mirza and Rafael moved to Northern Virginia in 1999 when Rafael was hired as the Program Control Manager for the Renovation of the Pentagon. They came directly to Agudas Achim Congregation because their former Rabbi knew Jack Moline. In 2001, Mirza participated in and graduated from the Hadassah Leadership Program. She also joined a Torah study group that meets twice a month.

Mirza Lopez has been the Executive Director of Agudas Achim Congregation since August 2004. In her free time Mirza enjoys gourmet cooking and baking. On a nice Sunday you might find her on the motorcycle with her husband.
